Getting started
MysterSmith connects your phone to your peek devices, impression boards, printers, remotes and smartwatches, and moves information between them during a performance: a spectator writes a word, the app recognizes it, transforms it (a template, an A.I. prompt, a calculation...) and sends it to the device where you — or the spectator — see it.
Most of it is set up once, at home, in Settings. On stage you just load your routine and tap START ROUTINE. This page walks you through the first steps.
1. Sign in
Open the app and sign in with Apple or Google. Your account keeps your routines, your Text and Image Buffer, your templates and your purchased add-ons — on every phone you sign in on.
After signing in, the home screen shows:
- START ROUTINE — starts the performance (see step 6), with the name of the active routine under it,
- Create/Load routine,
- EXIT APP,
- at the top: your Account ID and the Network state; at the bottom: Home, START, User Guide and Settings.
Do you have a code?
If you received a code (a gift, a device bundle, a voucher), open Settings → ACCOUNT SETTINGS → Do you have a code? → Tap to enter. Your account details (credentials, subscription, purchased add-ons, your MysterSmith API key) are under ACCOUNT SETTINGS → Show details.
2. Set your username and PIN
Besides the Apple / Google sign-in, MysterSmith needs a BS Magic username and PIN. They are needed for text recognition, subscribing, the free Gemini A.I. calls, and the web features where you log in from a browser (e.g. the WEB screen). Until they are set, a red reminder shows under CREDENTIALS in your account details.
- Open Settings → ACCOUNT SETTINGS → Show details.
- In the CREDENTIALS part, tap Username and enter any username that is not taken yet: 3–10 characters, lowercase letters and numbers only, no spaces. If you already have a BS Magic username (from another BS Magic app), use that one, with its PIN.
- Tap PIN code and enter a 4–6 digit number.
Guided tour
The app can show you the way: open the User Guide tab (bottom bar) → Guided tours → Account setup: username & PIN. The tour highlights each step on your screen.
3. Find your way in Settings
The Settings page is long — these help:
- Search settings at the top: type a word (e.g. volume, printer, template) and only the matching settings remain.
- Jump chips under it: Top, Routines, Devices, Actions, Input, Transform, Output, More.
- The page follows the way information moves through the app:
| Group | What you find there |
|---|---|
| TEXT BUFFER / IMAGE BUFFER | everything the app received, see Text Buffer and Image Buffer |
| MY ROUTINES | save / load your settings, see Routines |
| MY DEVICES | connect and set up your Bluetooth devices, see Display devices and Printers |
| MY ACTIONS | what happens on the volume buttons, the app logo, after the app starts, device buttons..., see Triggers and actions |
| A.I. FEATURES | your A.I. engines and API keys |
| Input methods | text recognition, volume buttons, WEB-polling, dice, remote controls, voice recognition, fake passcode, calculator, swipe, Morse, NFC... |
| Transform / process | templates, A.I. text and image prompts, date calculator, acronym word list |
| Output / screens | Send to API, prediction photo, image templates, watches, Doodle screen, black screen, fake homescreen, external displays, audio... |
| Device settings | Peek Board, Reinkstone |
| More settings | integrations, font manager, other settings, debug console |
Tap a section's title to open it.
4. Connect your devices
Open MY DEVICES:
- Enable/disable BT devices → Manage shows every supported device. Switch on the ones you own (ENABLE ALL / Disable all at the top; long press a device to make it a favorite, and Show only favorites to keep the list short).
- Turn on your device and tap Connect next to it. Once it is connected, Settings opens the device's own panel: device info, basic settings, a test, and its button actions.
- Auto-connect devices decides what connects by itself when the app starts: All nearby devices, My saved devices, Saved for this routine or Custom (per device setting).
The full list: Supported devices.
5. Hide what you don't need
MysterSmith has a lot of features. Show only yours: MY ROUTINES → Enable/disable features → Manage. Switch off what you don't use (Disable all, then switch on the few you need), and long press to mark favorites. Hidden features disappear from the Settings page; switch them on again any time.
6. Make your first routine
- Set up one effect: e.g. text recognition on the Doodle screen, and MY ACTIONS → Volume UP → show last text.
- MY ROUTINES → SAVE AS NEW, give it a name (e.g. Drawing duplication).
- Go back to the home screen and tap START ROUTINE.
START ROUTINE opens the performance screen: big buttons for the screens and input methods you enabled (TEXT/NUMBERS, CARDS, COLORS, DOODLE, BLACK SCREEN, DICE SCREEN, SWIPE INPUT, MORSE INPUT, HOMESCREEN, PASSCODE, CALCULATOR, THUMBWRITER, PLAY AUDIO...) and switches for the background inputs (CLIPBOARD, WEB-POLLING, VOICE RECOGN., NFC READER, WEB-INPUT, WEB-DOODLE, LAST PHOTO). It also saves your settings automatically and clears the buffers / screens if you asked for it.
Save your changes
Changing a setting does not change the routine until you tap SAVE in MY ROUTINES. More: Routines.
